While Zuckerberg did not disclose the exact number of graphics processing units (GPUs) already procured by Meta, it’s worth noting that the H100 GPUs only became available on the market in late 2022 and were initially in limited supply. Analysts at Raymond James estimate the price of an H100 GPU to range between $25,000 to $30,000, with some units fetching over $40,000 on eBay. If Meta were to make purchases at the lower end of this price range, it would translate to nearly $9 billion in expenditures.

Furthermore, Zuckerberg revealed that Meta’s compute infrastructure would include “almost 600k H100 equivalents of compute,” taking into account other GPUs. In December, several tech giants, including Meta, OpenAI, and Microsoft, announced their intention to utilize the new Instinct MI300X AI computer chips developed by AMD.
