Partnership Details

As part of the partnership agreement, Microsoft will provide support to Mistral AI by offering access to Azure AI supercomputing infrastructure. This includes utilizing enhanced computing resources to train purpose-specific models tailored for select customers, particularly focusing on European public sector workloads. Additionally, Microsoft will acquire a small stake in Mistral AI, which was last valued at €2 billion ($2.1 billion), and will make Mistral’s models available on its Azure service.

Azure Integration and Model Availability

Mistral 7B, an existing model from Mistral AI, has been integrated into the Azure AI model catalog since November. However, the latest addition, Mistral Large, is now accessible on Azure. Mistral Large is a versatile language model capable of handling multiple languages, including French, German, Spanish, Italian, and English. It is positioned as one of the top-ranked models globally, available through an API, following OpenAI’s GPT, based on common benchmarks. Although currently exclusive to Azure, there are indications that this exclusivity may be time-limited.

CEO and Customer Testimonials

Arthur Mensch, CEO of Mistral AI, expressed excitement about the partnership with Microsoft, emphasizing the transformative potential of Azure’s advanced AI infrastructure in expanding Mistral’s reach and driving innovation. Philippe Rambach, Chief AI Officer at Schneider Electric, shared positive feedback about Mistral Large’s performance, highlighting its efficacy in improving internal efficiency. Schneider Electric has already tested Mistral Large through Azure AI Studio, achieving comparable performance to state-of-the-art models with superior latency.
